About Terry Wood

Terry Wood grew up in east Tennessee.  Terrys father was (and is) the music minister and his mother plays the piano at the church where he grew up and cut his teeth singing in the choir and singing solos during worship and special programs.  With parents serving in ministry positions in the church, Terry likes to say that he grew up with a drug problem---his parents drug him to church whether he wanted to go or not!  Looking back, Terry counts that as one of the greatest blessings of his life---having parents that didnt drop him off at church, but took him to church.  God became real to Terry late in high school and since then, he has tried to serve God faithfully, wherever God called him.

Music has always been a part of Terrys life.  After growing up singing, Terry sang with the Penny Loafers (a mostly a cappella mens quartet) for a couple years in route to answering the call to youth ministry, in which he served for 14 years at various churches, using music as a way to reach students and connect them to Jesus in worship.  It has always been a passion and goal of Terry’s ministry to see students “own their faith”—-where it’s not just something they hear from his teaching or from pastors or parents, but it becomes something that’s living and growing inside them that they are pursuing in their daily lives.  Seeing that happen in the lives of children or students or even adults is something that Terry says “never gets old.”

Late in 2007, however, God called Terry out once again to follow Him in a new ministry endeavor, which Terry describes as a Music Missionary, as he is able to use his diverse musical style to adapt his music to his audience in order to share Jesus with them.  Terry has sung in front of audiences big and small, traditional and contemporary, from kids to teenagers to college students to adults to senior adults.  He released a CD in 2008, Collideoscope, that is somewhat of a snapshot of all he does with music because, as he says, Theres something on there for everybody.

In 2012, God brought Terry back once again to student ministry and then branched that out to students and worship in 2013.  Even with the changes in churches and ministry positions over years, Terry is very much at peace with the way that God is using him.  As Terry describes it, “The goal of my life and ministry is just to be a ‘blank check’ for God to fill in whenever and however He chooses, and I’m blessed to have a wife and kids that feel the same way.”

While music and ministry play a huge part in Terrys life, he will tell you that his family comes first.  Being a husband and a father, Terry says that his family is his number one ministry.  Terry married Shannon in 1994 and they have two sons and a daughter—Taylor (16), Mary Elizabeth (12), and Peyton (7).  They live in Easley, SC where Terry serves as the Minister of Worship at Calvary Hill Baptist Church.
